Creating Social Impact
Deo holds a BA in Adult and Community Education and Master’s degrees in Educational Research (Philosophy) and Human Rights, Culture, and Social Justice from Makerere University, the University of London, and the University of Cambridge. He has also completed specialised leadership training.
With over 10 years of experience, Deo has led grassroots, national, and international initiatives focused on disability rights, inclusive education, climate justice, and community development. His work spans project management, qualitative and quantitative research, policy advocacy, monitoring and evaluation, and inclusive programme design, with a strong emphasis on co-production and lived experience.
Deo has held senior leadership roles within major Disabled Persons’ Organisations (DPOs) in Uganda, including the Uganda National Association of Cerebral Palsy and the National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda (NUDIPU), and has represented disability organisations at the UNCRPD Committee. His work has strengthened partnerships with governments and civil society, enhanced community participation, and advanced inclusive, rights-based policy outcomes.
In recognition of his impact, Deo received the Queen’s Young Leaders Award (2015), was selected for the Mandela Washington Fellowship (2016), and was awarded a Chevening Scholarship to study in the UK, where he also won the Goldsmiths Innovation Award (2017).
